"Another kid? The last one who walked in here cried after machine two."
Rusty Pete is the first real wall in Arcade Beasts. As the boss of the Industrial District foundry, he hits hard with raw Iron-type attacks and rewards players who bring sustain over burst. He is also the easiest way to teach yourself the slot-reel combat system, so take your time — losing to Pete a couple of times is part of the game.
Pete opens every match with high-damage Iron attacks. His signature Scrapheap stacks shield every few turns, so chip damage is nearly useless against him. You need to land clean doubles and triples to break through, and you need the HP to survive two or three big hits while you build up energy for the counter.
Team composition wins this fight before the first spin. Here's the 1 Main + 3 Support build that counters Rusty Pete's specific mechanics:

Bet Tier 3 (3 energy) as your default spin. This guarantees a double on reels 1-2 so every turn does meaningful work, and it leaves room in your pool for a Tier 4 or 5 power turn.
When Pete drops below 40% HP, switch to Tier 4 or 5 bets and chase triples. He will start spamming his Iron shield — you need to break through it in one decisive turn, not chip at it across five.
Save your Silver supporter's heal active for under 30% HP. Pete can one-shot an exposed main with a lucky triple, and you only get one reset button per match.
If you're new to energy tiers, read the slot-reel battle system explainer first.
New players try to out-tank Pete with a pure Iron team. Iron stacks attack, not HP — you'll hit hard but you'll also die fast. Lead with Silver instead.
Pete's signature Scrapheap is an Iron common with stacking shield. Focus it down before the shield gets above 50 or you'll waste a full round of damage. If you have a Silver supporter, its heal active completely out-paces Scrapheap's damage output.
